The On-The-SpotTM Nitrate / Nitrite Detector detects ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrates mixed with organic explosives and other compounds containing nitrates and nitrites.
Each On-The-SpotTM Nitrate / Nitrite Detector has four parts: 1) a gray pad for wiping the surface, 2) a reagent coated pad, 3) a divider, and, 4) a spray bottle containing clean water. Side 1 (the gray pad) is moistened using the provided spray bottle and used to wipe the suspect surface. After removing the divider, Part 3, Side 2 (the reagent pad) is pressed onto Side 1. If there are nitrates or nitrites on the absorbent pad a red color will form in 10 to 60 seconds.
A box of 10 On-The-SpotTM Nitrate / Nitrite Detectors weighs less than 4 ounces, (110 grams), making it easy to store, even on aircraft. Since it contains all the components needed for use, the On-The-SpotTM can be rapidly deployed. This is especially important in situations where a professional laboratory or expensive equipment is not available, or when immediate results are required (10 to 180 seconds). Even unskilled personnel can use the On-The-SpotTM successfully.
