Detect Cyanides and Azides using API CA-61K Detection Kit

The CA-61K Cyanide & Azide Detection Kit contains one CA-61 Detection Card for Cyanide, Chromate, Azide and Sulfide and all accessories needed in the preparation of food and other samples for testing (except clean water).

Detector Cyanide, Azide, Chromate, Sulfide (Group 1, Model CA-61, Patent Pending)

The CA series detection tabs were designed to detect small and very toxic inorganic ions. The CA detectors utilize TABS technology (Patent Pending). The CA cards detect levels of poisons which are Immediately Dangerous to Health and Life. (IDHL). The CA detection tabs were designed to detect primarily cyanides, azides, chromates and sulfides. Liquid foods and drinks can be analyzed directly. Solid foods have to be mixed with equal volume of clean water, stirred vigorously, and the liquid analyzed. About 2-7 droplets of liquid sample or food extract are applied in two locations on the HM Tab. The presence of poison is indicated by a clear color change which may be compared with reference colors pre-printed on the card. The color changes in 1 second to 5 minutes depending on the viscosity of the food sample. The analysis is completed typically in 2-10 seconds. The detection limit is between 10-6 and 10-9 gram cyanide, depending on the food. A Quality Assurance strip, (QAD), is included in the card to ensure the user that the detector is working properly. Note: Peroxide may be formed in food which is spoiling. The center strip of the detector may react with LARGE amounts of peroxide to form a blue color similar to that formed in the presence of cyanide. The detector was designed to analyze FOOD samples therefore, the sample has to be in the pH range of foods. Please do NOT try to analyze samples which are in a strong acidic, basic or salt solutions. PURE materials have to be diluted by a factor of at least 200 before analysis.

This detector can be used to detect cyanide or azides in food before consumption, in food residues and in samples of stomach content for forensic testing. The US DOD funded a part of the development work and independent validation tests.
