Sulfite Detector

SulfiteCheck™ Sulfite Detector

The ChemSee SulfiteCheck™ sulfite detector is a rapid colorimetric test for screening food and beverages for sulfites. The compact detector uses separate sample and quality-assurance areas to provide an easy-to-interpret visual result without an electronic reader.

SULFITE SCREENING

5 ppm Sensitivity

SulfiteCheck™ is designed to detect sulfites at concentrations as low as approximately 5 parts per million (ppm).

RAPID RESULTS

Under 3 Minutes

The detector develops its visual response in approximately 3 minutes after the prepared sample is applied.

BUILT-IN QUALITY CHECK

Quality Assurance

A separate quality-assurance area develops a blue response to confirm that the applicable detector chemistry is functioning during the test.

How SulfiteCheck™ Works

Prepare the sample when necessary, apply liquid to both sides of the detector and interpret the color response after approximately three minutes.

1

Prepare Sample

  • Liquids: Use the sample as-is.
  • Solid foods: Mince or cut into small pieces.
  • Mix the solid sample with approximately an equal volume of water.
  • Mix thoroughly before testing the liquid portion.

2

Apply Sample

  • Place a small amount of liquid sample on the marked openings.
  • Apply sample to both sides of the SulfiteCheck™ detector.
  • Make sure the applicable test areas are adequately wetted.

3

Wait & Read

  • Allow approximately 3 minutes for the test to develop.
  • The quality-assurance side should develop a blue response.
  • A white response on the sample side indicates sulfites are present.
  • If blue develops throughout, sulfites are not detected under the conditions of the test.

Interpreting SulfiteCheck™ Results

Use both the sample response and the built-in quality-assurance response when interpreting a SulfiteCheck™ test.

NEGATIVE RESULT

No Sulfites Detected

When the quality-assurance chemistry responds properly and blue color develops throughout the applicable test areas, sulfites are not detected under the conditions of the test.

POSITIVE RESULT

Sulfites Detected

A positive sulfite response is indicated when the quality-assurance side develops its expected blue response while the sample side remains or becomes white.

Important: Always interpret the test using the instructions supplied with SulfiteCheck™. Sample color, composition, preparation and other matrix effects may influence a visual colorimetric result.

Screening result: SulfiteCheck™ is designed as a rapid colorimetric screening test for sulfites in suitable food and beverage samples. It does not provide an exact numerical sulfite concentration and is not a medical test for sulfite sensitivity or allergy.

For customers who prefer professional analysis rather than performing and interpreting a direct test, ChemSee also offers mail-in sample testing.
