Following the required post-blast examination, a qualified blaster releases equipment for normal work. Maintenance personnel then find unexpected residue on a vehicle or tool outside the expected explosives-handling path.

The question is housekeeping, material control or investigation—not whether a hole misfired, whether the blast area is safe, or whether re-entry is authorized. Expected lawful residue and nitrate-containing materials make background context essential.

Assess, Select, Screen, Document and Escalate

  1. Assess safety and authority. Confirm through the authorized blasting procedure that the area or item is safe to approach.
  2. Select the method. Define the residue/material question and select the surface or collected-sample format.
  3. Screen under the instructions. Check supplied QA materials, follow current product instructions and account for surface compatibility.
  4. Document the observation. Record location, operational context, product lot and prescribed response.
  5. Escalate and confirm. Escalate unexpected, uncertain or consequential observations under the site’s blast-safety, security, environmental or laboratory procedure.

Presumptive Screening Boundaries

ChemSee products do not detect a misfire, authorize blast-area re-entry, verify magazine or regulatory compliance, determine whether a borehole is safe, prove theft or misuse, identify an exact formulation or measure concentration.

A negative result means that no applicable response was observed under the conditions of the test. It does not exclude a target outside the selected chemistry, inaccessible residue, matrix or surface interference, sampling error or an amount that does not produce the prescribed response.
