FOOD ADULTERANT APPLICATIONS

When “Test Our Food” Is Too Broad to Act On

A manufacturer changes a supplier and receives a documentation discrepancy on a high-volume ingredient. The quality team needs a useful screening question, but “test for adulteration” is not a defined method.

The first decision is to identify one supported target—formaldehyde, sulfite, peroxide, nitrate, nitrite or borax—then confirm that the food or beverage matrix, preparation and expected range can support interpretable screening.

ChemSee reviews the matrix and decision point before matching the application to one target-specific semi-quantitative dipstick. One dipstick does not screen for every adulterant, and consequential results still require the organization’s confirmation and response pathway.

USE CASE

Dairy and Milk Testing

Review complex milk and dairy matrices for selected formaldehyde, nitrate and nitrite screening applications.

PRODUCT PATH

Food and Beverage Quality Control

Add target-specific rapid screening to a broader quality program when the matrix, controls and response procedure have been defined.

PROGRAM FIT

Inspection and Import Screening

Use portable target-specific screening to prioritize samples or support an inspection workflow without treating the result as complete regulatory analysis.

Important Screening Limitations

Food color, acidity, fat, protein, suspended solids and preparation can influence a visual result. Each target and matrix requires current instructions and application review; one dipstick does not screen for all adulterants.

  • Confirm sample type, preparation and compatibility before use.
  • Use the current instructions and reference colors for the supplied configuration.
  • Escalate positive or uncertain results under the organization’s response and confirmatory-testing procedure.

Discuss a Food Adulterant Application

Provide the target, food or beverage matrix, preparation constraints, expected throughput, decision point and destination.

Name the commodity, suspected analyte and action a result would trigger. ChemSee will help define the product, preparation and confirmation path.
