After Munitions Personnel Establish Where Sampling Can Begin
At a former range or explosives-manufacturing site, qualified munitions personnel establish the locations and conditions under which environmental staff may work. The environmental team then needs reconnaissance-level information to prioritize soil extracts, water samples or surface wipes for laboratory analysis.
The gap is sample prioritization—not UXO/MEC clearance, contaminant delineation or remediation closure. Heterogeneous contamination, matrix effects and sampling error can dominate a field observation, so the data-quality objective and confirmatory method must be defined before a screening product is selected.

Presumptive Screening Boundaries
Colorimetric screening does not detect UXO or munitions, quantify soil or water contamination, map a site, confirm remediation, establish regulatory closure or substitute for EPA Method 8330B or another approved laboratory method. Matrix effects, heterogeneous distribution and sampling error can dominate interpretation.
A negative result means that no applicable response was observed under the conditions of the test. It does not exclude a target outside the selected chemistry, inaccessible residue, matrix or surface interference, sampling error or an amount that does not produce the prescribed response.
