AZD-N2 and AZD-P2 Azide Detection Cards
AZD-N2 and AZD-P2 are qualitative color-change cards for screening technically reviewed liquid samples. They serve different pH conditions and should not be treated as interchangeable. ChemSee reviews the sample matrix and intended decision before confirming the appropriate product.
The cards are designed for visual interpretation under the current supplied instructions and do not require an electronic reader.
AZD-N2 supplies an azide detection card with an integral color reference and full-color instructions. AZD-P2 adds a sample-preparation pouch for reviewed alkaline samples. Under the documented configurations, no additional test reagents or electronic reader are required.
Provide the Sample Profile
Include the sample identity, process source, expected azide form, pH, matrix, color, preparation constraints, potential interferences, expected test volume and the decision the result must support.
Two pH Ranges
AZD-N2: reviewed pH 5–8 samples.
AZD-P2: reviewed pH 8–14 samples.
1–4 Minutes
AZD-N2 typically screens in 1–2 minutes; AZD-P2 preparation and screening typically require 1–4 minutes.
Dark Brown to Black
A prescribed positive response develops in the card’s indicator zone and is compared with the integral reference.
No Electronic Reader
Both documented configurations are visually interpreted and require no electronic reader or additional test reagent.

Selection Logic
Neutral to Mildly Acidic Samples
The reviewed test portion is a neutral to mildly acidic solution within pH 5–8 and the application fits the biological, pharmaceutical or other approved sample context.
Basic Samples
The reviewed test portion is a basic solution within pH 8–14 and requires the AZD-P2 configuration and its included pretreatment pouch.
Pause When the Matrix Is Complex
The matrix is strongly colored, turbid, nonaqueous, highly reactive, compositionally variable or expected to contain oxidants, reductants or other components that could affect preparation or visual interpretation.
A Defensible Screening Workflow
- Define the process point and the action the result may support.
- Confirm sample compatibility and select the card with ChemSee.
- Use the current product instructions and appropriate facility controls.
- Record sample identity, preparation, conditions, lot and prescribed response.
- Escalate positive, uncertain or consequential findings for appropriate confirmation.
Do not infer concentration from color intensity unless a separate, current and approved method explicitly provides that interpretation.
Safety and Method Boundaries
Sodium azide can form toxic hydrazoic acid in contact with acid and can react with certain metals or metal-containing plumbing. Follow current product documentation, the sample owner’s safety procedures and applicable EHS requirements. The AZD-P2 pouch is intended to avoid hydrazoic-acid exposure; this statement does not replace the current instructions or authorize alternate preparation.
Neither card is a quantitative instrument, complete chemical analysis, universal azide-species detector, emergency-response instrument, validated pharmaceutical release or cleaning-verification method, regulatory method, discharge test, waste characterization or disposal determination.
