Developing the KT-06 Food Poison Detection Kit

The KT-06 food-poison detection technology was developed by Appealing Products, Inc. under contract with the U.S. Department of Defense through the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG).

The program addressed an operational challenge: providing security and response personnel with a portable way to screen food and beverages for multiple classes of dangerous inorganic poisons before consumption, without depending on sophisticated laboratory instrumentation at the point of use.

The resulting platform combined three complementary detector groups into a self-contained, deployable kit with sample-preparation materials and visual colorimetric results.

Define the Threat

Food and water can be vulnerable soft targets. A field solution needed to address toxic chemicals and metallic poisons across varied food matrices before consumption.

Combine Detector Groups

ChemSee combined complementary colorimetric methods for Group I anion poisons, Group II heavy metals and Group III arsenic compounds.

Build the Field Workflow

Detectors, sample-preparation materials, instructions and visual references were packaged into a self-contained kit for deployable screening.

The Three-Group Detection Architecture

The original development effort was conducted under a DoD contract through TSWG to address deployable detection of toxic adulterants in food.

INDEPENDENT TECHNICAL EVALUATION

North Carolina State University

The Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences at NC State independently evaluated the food-poison detection platform for rapid detection across varied food matrices and practical operator use.
